The Resurrection of Jesus — Bible Story

John 20:1-18

Jesus overcomes death — the heart of Christian faith.

Jesus was crucified. The sky darkened. Friends scattered. Mary Magdalene, with her heart in pieces, went to the tomb early Sunday morning — carrying spices for a body she did not expect to find alive. The stone was rolled away. The tomb, empty.

Angels dressed in white: "Why do you seek the living among the dead? He has risen, as he said." Mary wept, confused. She saw someone in the garden and thought he was the gardener — until she heard her name: "Mary." It was Jesus. Alive. Real.

She ran to tell the disciples. Thomas doubted; then he touched the wounded hands and believed. Death did not have the final word. Jesus appeared, ate fish, walked with friends — body transformed, yet recognizable.

The resurrection is not a pretty metaphor. It is the foundation of Christian hope: God's love is stronger than the tomb. That is why Easter exists — because Sunday morning changed forever the meaning of grief.

Reflection

We all carry "tombs" — grief, failures, dreams that seem dead. Mary went to the grave with spices, a gesture of one who still loves even without understanding. God answered with life. If today something in you feels finished, this story whispers: Sunday can still come. Do not rush hope. It has already rolled away the heaviest stone.

Empty tomb: Jesus had died and been placed in a tomb. On Sunday the stone was rolled away!
